Shopify UX/UI Design for The Homage Collection — Luxury Stadium Collector’s Tables

About the Project

The Homage Collection creates luxury collector’s coffee tables — hand-painted 3D models of iconic stadiums encased in beveled tempered glass, built from walnut solid wood with integrated mood lighting. Each piece is a limited-edition tribute to a specific club and venue: AFL, Cricket, Formula 1, Soccer, NASCAR, Basketball, Rugby, and more.

The brand’s launch needed a Shopify storefront that matched the product’s prestige. The challenge was unique: this is not a standard e-commerce purchase. It’s a collector’s decision — emotional, considered, and exclusive. The design had to build desire before it asked for commitment.

Project Objectives

1. Design for emotion, not transaction. The product is too premium and too personal for a conventional “add to cart” experience. Every design decision — the dark palette, the glow effects, the absence of pricing — was made to prioritise emotional connection over immediate conversion. Shoppers needed to feel the product’s significance before seeing its cost.

2. Build anticipation through scarcity mechanics. The Homage Collection releases one stadium at a time. The design needed to reflect and amplify this model: a countdown timer signals exactly when a purchasing window opens, “Secure Your Spot” replaces “Buy Now”, and a Future Releases section teases upcoming drops to keep collectors engaged between launches.

3. Communicate craftsmanship visually. The product details — 10mm beveled tempered glass, walnut solid wood, integrated mood lighting, 1000×1000×400mm dimensions — needed to be presented as design features, not spec sheets. Each material was given its own full-bleed visual treatment in the Product Details section.

4. Full responsive design across all breakpoints. All pages were designed across desktop, tablet, and mobile — ensuring the premium experience translates to every screen without compromise.

Design Solutions

Dark theme with glow and blur effects. A deep dark background makes the stadium models — lit from within — the undisputed focal point of every page. Glow and blur effects around product imagery create a cinematic, gallery-like atmosphere that reinforces the collector’s positioning.

Countdown timer and scarcity-driven product page. Each product page features a live countdown to the purchasing window opening. This is a core conversion mechanic: it creates urgency without discounting, and trains collectors to return at a specific moment. The CTA “Reserve Now” with no visible price reinforces exclusivity over impulse buying.

Collections Store with sport-based filtering. The store page allows filtering by sport — AFL, Cricket, Soccer/Football, Formula 1, NASCAR, Baseball, Basketball, Rugby, NRL — and sorting by popularity. This architecture scales cleanly as new stadium releases are added across multiple leagues.

Future Releases horizontal scroll. A dedicated section previews upcoming stadium releases, keeping the collector community engaged and building anticipation for the next drop. Each card shows the stadium render with a “Secure Your Spot” CTA.

Product Details as visual storytelling. Rather than a bullet-point spec list, each product attribute — glass type, wood finish, table dimensions, stadium scale, lighting — is presented as a full-width material close-up with a single headline. This transforms technical specs into craft narrative.

5-step order process section. A clearly designed explainer covers the full customer journey: Stadium Release → Securing Your Order → Order Confirmation → Production & Tracking → Delivery. This section reduces purchase anxiety for a high-ticket, made-to-order product.

Custom iconography. Bespoke icons for Exclusivity, Legacy, and Craftsmanship reinforce brand values throughout the page — consistent with the premium visual language established across the design system.

Lifestyle photography integration. Real-use imagery — the table in a living room setting, fans gathered around it — bridges the gap between collector’s item and everyday living, making the product feel both aspirational and attainable.

Design-to-Development Handoff

The design was built from scratch in Figma — not a redesign of an existing site. The layout and component structure were intentionally aligned with Shopify’s Dawn theme architecture, meaning any development team can implement the design by customising Dawn to match the Figma file. No proprietary framework, no vendor lock-in — just a clean, developer-friendly handoff that works with the most widely supported Shopify theme on the market.

FAQ

Luxury limited-edition products require a fundamentally different design approach than standard e-commerce. The focus shifts from friction reduction to desire building — using dark aesthetics, editorial product photography, minimal UI, and scarcity mechanics like countdown timers and reservation flows rather than instant-purchase CTAs.

A countdown timer displays the exact time remaining until a purchasing window opens or closes. For limited-release products, it serves as both an urgency mechanic and a trust signal — it tells collectors precisely when to return, making the scarcity feel structured and intentional rather than arbitrary.

For ultra-premium or made-to-order products, leading with price can short-circuit the emotional journey before it begins. Removing price from the initial product view forces the design to do its job — building perceived value through storytelling, materials, and craft narrative — so that by the time the buyer reaches the reservation step, the price is secondary to desire.

Sports collectibles combine fan identity with luxury aesthetics — the design must honour both. This means sport-specific filtering architecture for scalability across leagues, collector-oriented language (“Secure Your Spot”, “Future Releases”), and visual treatment that elevates a physical object into a cultural artefact.
